Partners
Gut Reaction is built on the quality and reputation of our collaborators and partners, who each bring their unique expertise as leaders in their respective fields
Gut Reaction is a partnership of leading organisations in the IBD research, patient support and data security and curation fields
Cambridge University Hospitals
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH), comprising Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie Hospitals, are leading research hospitals in the East of England, providing emergency, surgical and medical specialist care and supporting world-leading research.
CUH are the lead accountable organisation and data controller for the Gut Reaction Hub and also provide an ISO accredited data storage solution for genetic data.
Crohn’s & Colitis UK
The UK’s foremost charity for Crohn’s and Colitis have facilitated efforts of researchers and patients to meet the needs of people living with IBD. Their members help shape large scale clinical trials and innovative health data platforms. The charity is leading our patient and public involvement and engagement (PPI/E) activities, which are fundamental to the programme.
NIHR BioResource
The NIHR BioResource facilitates cutting edge research across the UK by connecting researchers with the right patients, samples or data for their studies. NIHR BioResource participants provide informed consent to their health records being made available for approved research purposes, in addition to providing biological samples and consent to be contacted about participating in relevant research.
The NIHR BioResource has an international reputation among patients, academics and industry alike for supporting accessible, ethical access to relevant research participants, and for their expertise in data governance and management.
NIHR IBD BioResource
The NIHR BioResource is coordinated by 13 centres across England and recruits individuals from the general population in addition to patients with rare and common diseases, including IBD. Established in 2016, the NIHR IBD BioResource is a national research platform involving over 35,000 consented re-callable IBD patients, with detailed genetic and health data. Recently celebrating their 5-year anniversary, the IBD BioResource is an integral part of the UK IBD research scene, recruiting at over 100 participating NHS sites across the UK.
Access to data through Gut Reaction is made possible through the consent of the participants in the IBD BioResource, and their willingness to support research into IBD.
Wellcome Sanger Institute
Scientists at the Wellcome Sanger Institute are internationally recognised experts in genomic sequencing for research to improve human health. They are providing whole genome sequencing (WGS) and whole exome sequencing (WES) on the DNA samples from IBD BioResource participants, which can be linked to other datasets held by the Gut Reaction Hub.
IBD Registry
The IBD Registry collects health data from NHS hospitals and analyses this information to help improve services for people in the UK with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and other forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It also supports new research into these conditions. As the national registry for IBD, we work with more than 100 NHS hospitals to support improvements in treatment and care, enable research and improve understanding of these lifelong diseases. This is made possible thanks to more than 40,000 people with IBD who have given consent for their data to be used in the Registry. If you have IBD, you can join the Registry to agree to your data being used to support this valuable resource.
Privitar
Privitar is a leader in data privacy, developing cutting edge tools that maintain individuals’ fundamental right to privacy without inhibiting transformative research. Privitar is providing data de-identification tools for Gut Reaction datasets as well as expertise and support on general data privacy.
AIMES
Now part of the Arrow Group, AIMES are an award-winning cloud computing company who provide intelligent data solutions (which are ISO27001, G-Cloud, DSP Toolkit & Cyber Essentials Plus certified) to primarily healthcare-related clients. They are proving their flagship TRE (Trustworthy Research Environment) platform for Gut Reaction data access studies.
