Historic Funders
Gut Reaction was funded for an initial 3-year period by UK Research and Innovation’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF), through a programme designed to create a UK-wide infrastructure for safe and responsible access to health data. This initiative was delivered and administered by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK). Following successful completion of the initial funding period, Gut Reaction will continue as part of the NIHR BioResource, supported by Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
Health Data Research UK
Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is the national institute for health data science; its mission is to unite the UK’s health data to enable discoveries that improve people’s lives. By working in partnership with the NHS, industry, academia and patients, and providing safe and secure access to rich health data, HDR UK aims to better understand diseases and discover new ways to prevent, treat and cure them.
HDR UK led the Digital Innovation Hub Programme, which Gut Reaction is a part of, on behalf of UK Research and Innovation. This Programme created a UK-wide capability for the safe and responsible use of health-related data at scale for research and innovation, incorporating three areas: the UK Health Data Research Alliance; the Health Data Research Hubs; and, the UK Health Data Research Innovation Gateway.
UK Research and Innovation

Eastern Academic Health Science Network
Eastern Academic Health Science Network (Eastern AHSN) brings together academia, citizens, health services and industry to realise the value of innovations more quickly. The Eastern AHSN Health Informatics team, led by Mark Avery, coordinated the initial application, provided operational leadership and programme management, alongside Commercial Director Louise Jopling, as joint workstream lead for industry and sustainability.
